Extremist Umno and Perkasa: VOTE NOT!

This is the reason why we will vote for PAS. The organisation is more religious and open to reason, unlike fanatical Umno and Perkasa.

Conservative Muslim party PAS has shot down Malay rights pressure group Perkasa's call for a jihad or holy war against Christians if allegations of a conspiracy to usurp Islam's official status are true.

PAS central committee member Husam Musa said Perkasa does not practise true Islam and was thus not qualified to speak about jihad.

pas muktamar 55 husam musa 050609"Perkasa has political motives that clearly defend certain evils," he said, adding that the Malay rights NGO keeps quiet on corruption, loss of rule of law, social problems, muddled policies and the failures of Umno and BN.

"Moreover, by using only racial or religious issues for one-sided political reasons, it shows that Perkasa does not follow true Islamic teachings and is not qualified to talk about jihad, which must be clean and pure.

"For example, where was Perkasa when the MCA, Umno's main ally in BN, came to Kelantan tolobby against the ban on betting outlets to Kelantanese, who are 95 percent Muslims?" Husam (above) asked in a statement today.

He was commenting on Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali's speech on Saturday, in which Ibrahim issued the warning to the Christian community, based on the May 7 Utusan Malaysia report of a conspiracy in play to make Christianity the official religion of Malaysia.

'Don't abuse the term jihad'

Utusan said on its front page that the DAP and Christian groups were involved in the plot and that the two parties also wanted to install a Christian as prime minister. Both DAP and Christian groups have denied the claim.

Speaking at a Komuniti 1Malaysia group event in Gombak, Ibrahimwarned of bloodshed if the plot was found to be true.

"If they want a crusade, so be it. If they say that the peace that we enjoy is not good enough... we shall take up the challenge. Don't take the silence of Muslims as a sign of fear.

"Before our followers fall in this battle, (Perkasa) leaders will first lay down their lives and die sprawling in blood," Ibrahim said, and later mentioned the need for jihad.

Quoting a verse from the Quran, Husam said if Perkasa was truly keen about strengthening the position of Islam, it should promote good government policies as outlined by the religion and not use inflammatory words.

"I advise (Ibrahim) not to abuse the word jihad, especially when it involves Machiavellian politics to maintain the power of Umno and BN, when the concept of jihad is supposed to be pure and clean," he said.

Rakyat diutamakan?

On May 9, 2011, MPS people came to fix up this pothole:

But just less than five metres up the ramp, they left this pothole. I contacted MPS' Azhar on the same day in the evening. He promised to get it done. This pothole is still there this evening when I passed by (May 10). Let's see when they will come back to resurface this part of the road. Rakyat diutamakan?

Residents want Selayang council to solve traffic woes

FRUSTRATED over the bad traffic condition daily in their area, Wangsa Permai residents have sent a petition with 1,600 signatures to the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) yesterday.

They want the council to take immediate action by controlling traffic flow in the area.

Wangsa Permai Action Committee pro tem chairman Angus Ng said the traffic jam in the area was bad from 7am to 10am during weekdays and it was usually along Jalan Wangsa 2/6 and Persiaran KIP 2.

He said it sometimes took motorists almost an hour just to travel about 300m.

Serious matter: Zainal (left) listening to complaints from (from right) Khoo and Ng, during the handing over of the signatures collected by the residents.

“The situation is bad as there is only one way out,” said Ng, adding that the problem has been there for the past five years and had led to property prices falling.

“Many shoplots here are vacant and it is difficult to find tenants due to the traffic problems, ” he said.

The population in the area is about 40,000 and there are 8,000 commercial and residential units.

Ng said although MPS had intervened before by providing a one-way traffic flow system that led to Jalan 2/6, the problem had not been resolved.

Kenny Wong, who has been residing in the area for 11 years, said there was also flash floods causing traffic congestion during peak hours near the Shell station.

Another resident Simon Khoo said the congestion made it difficult for ambulances and fire engines to move in an emergency.

MPS president Datuk Zainal Abidin Aala said the council would be sending its enforcement team to direct traffic in the area so that motorists adhered to the one-way system.

“The problem is that motorists are not following the one-way system.

“The enforcement team will look into this as well as issue summonses to those who park their vehicles in an obstructive manner,” he said.

He added that the council would also be building an “island” to direct traffic near the Ixora apartments over the next two months.

“Untill then, our enforcement team will control traffic in the area,” he said
